I bought this car to drive for a few months while I explored the Southern Africa region. I’m moving overseas so it’s time to part with this reliable little car that I’ve loved so much.
It’s small hatchback, but it was able to get me everywhere I wanted to go - across Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. The Sport feature and Tiptronic shifting feature allowed me to go off the beaten path and not get stuck (think sand and gravel in Namibia and up mountain passes in South Africa). Its powerful for its size, but never cost me much in petrol. I’ve made it all the way from Gaborone to Maun on just one tank of petrol (851km). The trunk is spacious, able to fit a lot more than it looks like from the outside. I originally wanted to buy a 4x4, but looking back I wouldn’t have traded this VW for any other car. It was as powerful as most 4x4s but didn’t cost me tons in petrol.
Aesthetically it looks worn (I’ve really put this car to work), but if you don’t care about looks and care more about where the car will get you, it’s a good purchase.
I’ve recently replaced the windscreen and the two front tires.
